The aft-cabin half of the yard’s 42: the same hull as the Europa, with the master moved right aft and a walk-around berth in it rather than a sedan deckhouse over one level.

This is the boat the yard calls the next generation of the Selene 40, and the big sister of the 36 and the 38. The hull is shared with the 42 Europa — 13.77 m overall, 11.71 m on the waterline, 4.42 m of beam — and what changes is everything above it: the accommodation goes aft instead of staying on one level.

The aft stateroom is the argument for the layout. A walk-around double on the centreline, its own head and a stand-up shower stall, and forward a second cabin with an en-suite head of its own — two cabins and two heads on 13.77 m, which is a real second cabin rather than a berth in a passage.

One 230 hp Cummins on a shaft, 11 knots flat out, 2,271 l of fuel and a displacement hull under you. A deeper keel for tracking and a larger rudder for control at low speed — which is where a single-engine boat is either easy or a nuisance, and this one is meant to be easy.

The stern is the yard’s Cruisers Stern: it houses the steering quadrant and the battery banks and adds waterline length, which is speed and efficiency you get for nothing. Outside, walk-around decks and a large cockpit, with the foredeck arranged so the anchor can be worked safely and a heavy stainless bollard to take a line.

What you can get

Key features of the Selene 42

Aft stateroom with a walk-around berth

The master is right aft with a double on the centreline, its own head and a stand-up shower stall. That is the whole point of the aft-cabin layout over the sedan.

Two cabins, two heads

2 cabins and 2 heads on 13.77 m, the forward cabin with an en-suite of its own — so a second couple aboard is not sharing the one compartment.

The Cruisers Stern

It houses the steering quadrant and the battery banks and adds waterline length. More waterline is more speed and better efficiency for the same engine.

A single 230 hp Cummins

One engine on a shaft, 11 kn flat out. Simple to service, and the only machinery you have to think about on a long day.

Deeper keel, larger rudder

The keel is drawn deeper for stability and tracking and the rudder larger for control at low speed — the two things that decide whether a single-screw boat is easy to berth.

Bow thruster and anchor windlass

Both fitted from new rather than added later, which is what lets a 4.42 m beam be turned in a cross-wind and an anchor be worked from the helm.

A galley you can cook in

Full galley with room for a full-size refrigerator, and the yard’s hide-a-leaf table in the settee so the saloon seats a crowd and then goes back to being a saloon.

Decks arranged to be walked

Walk-around side decks, a large cockpit and lazarette, and a foredeck laid out so the anchor can be deployed and retrieved safely, with a heavy stainless bollard to take a line.

Specification varies by build and by market. Ask us what is standard on a European hull.
