The yard's Circumnavigator: a new hull built on the Selene Deep Hull structure, sitting between the 54 and the 62 in size and above both in headroom.

The Deep Hull raises the sheer and lifts the deck, and the whole boat is drawn around what that buys: headroom. The cabins get it, and so does the engine room, which is full height — you stand up in it and walk round the machinery rather than lying across it.

Between the owner's cabin and that engine room sits a full-height commissary: storage, freezer, washer and dryer, and the way in to the electrical compartment. It earns its space twice, because a room full of stores is also the best sound insulation there is between an engine and the person trying to sleep next to it.

Aft of the engine room, an expansive lazarette takes tools, spares and diving gear, with room to fit a crew cabin and head instead. Crew quarters aft have their own transom door. The European transom carries an inset swim platform.

The flybridge is laid out around a U-shaped sofa that seats ten, with a built-in barbecue, a sink and a refrigerator; a moulded settee does the same job down in the cockpit. 2,500 nautical miles at 9 kn on 7,570 l, three cabins and two heads. First deliveries began in the autumn of 2006 and more than thirty have been handed over since.

Key features of the Selene 60 Classic Explorer

Selene Deep Hull, raised sheer

A new mould with a raised sheer and a significantly higher deck. The point of it is headroom — in the cabins, and in the engine room, which is where a tall boat pays you back.

Full-height engine room

You stand up in it and walk round the machinery. This is the part of a boat you appreciate at the third oil change rather than at the boat show.

The commissary

A full-height utility room between the owner's cabin and the engine room: storage, freezer, washer and dryer, and access to the electrical compartment. It doubles as the sound barrier between the two.

Expansive lazarette

Aft of the walk-through engine room, and big enough for tools, spares and diving equipment — or for a crew cabin with its own head, if that is the way you intend to run her.

Crew quarters aft, transom door

Separate quarters aft with their own way in and out, so the people running the boat are not walking through the accommodation to do it.

The flybridge

A U-shaped sofa seating ten, a built-in barbecue, a sink and a refrigerator. An FRP hardtop is optional.

European transom

An inset swim platform in a European transom — the detail the yard credits with moving her up a class.

2,500 nm at 9 kn

7,570 l of fuel and 2,271 l of water on 19.84 m, which is what makes her the Circumnavigator rather than a coastal boat.
