For many lifelong sailors, moving from a sailboat to a trawler is a big decision. Sailing isn’t just how you travel—it’s part of who you are. So what would make someone transition to the trawler lifestyle?

When taking an informal survey of Selene owners at recent Rendezvous events on how they first got into boating, we were a bit surprised to find that nearly 75% of the people we talked to had started out on sailboats. Given the similar cruising speeds of sailboats and full-displacement trawlers, this kind of made sense. However, it turns out there is a lot more to it. From safety and comfort to being able to maximize their time out on the water, there are many reasons sailors have turned to trawlers.

In the video below, several Selene owners share the stories behind their decision to make the switch. They talk honestly about what they loved about sailing, what they were looking for in their next boat, and why a Selene turned out to be the right fit.
